Talklight
Privacy Policy
Last updated October 2, 2026
Talklight has no account and no server. Your timers and reports stay on your devices, and the only thing the app sends anywhere is anonymous usage counts.
- No account or sign-in
- No ads
- No tracking across other apps or websites
- Anonymous usage analytics, with none of your content
- Optional tips through Apple; every feature is free
What stays on your device
The following is stored only on your device. The app never uploads it, and deleting the app deletes it.
- Your timers, run-of-show lineups, history, timer reports and settings.
- A few preferences, such as whether you tipped, so the app can thank you and stop showing the tip banner.
If you back up your device with iCloud or a computer, the backup includes this data. Apple handles backups under its own privacy policy. Talklight doesn't use iCloud sync.
Analytics
To learn which features are used and to catch errors, Talklight sends anonymous usage signals to TelemetryDeck (TelemetryDeck GmbH, Germany), a privacy-focused analytics service. A signal is an event name plus a few coarse values:
- Feature events
- Event names such as timer started or finished, remote connected and message sent.
- Tips
- When a tip is started or completed, and which tip size it was. No payment information is included.
- Errors
- The kind of error that occurred.
- Standard technical details
- App version, iOS version, device model, system language and region, display and accessibility settings such as dark mode or larger text, and session counts.
- An anonymous identifier
- Made from the identifier iOS gives our apps on your device. The analytics package hashes it before sending, and TelemetryDeck hashes it again on arrival, so neither we nor TelemetryDeck can turn it back into a device identifier or link it to you.
Speaker names, timer names, message text, history and report contents are never sent.
The signals are not used to track you across other apps or websites, and no advertising profile is built, which is why the app doesn't show Apple's tracking prompt. TelemetryDeck explains how it handles data in its privacy policy.
Remote control on your local network
The remote-control feature links two devices you own. The device acting as the display announces itself on your local network using Bonjour, and the device acting as the remote connects to it directly over Wi-Fi or peer-to-peer Wi-Fi. Over that connection the two devices exchange the timer's state (which timer, how much time has passed, whether it is paused), the display's name, any speaker names you typed, the messages you send to the stage, and the record of each finished run.
This traffic goes from one device to the other on the local network, not over the internet, and it is not encrypted. Someone on the same network with the right tools could read it, and anyone who sees the four-digit pairing code on the display can connect a remote to it. Don't put anything confidential in a speaker name or a stage message. The app asks for the Local Network permission the first time you use Connect, and the feature does nothing until you allow it.
Notifications
If you turn on "Pocket & Apple Watch Alerts" in Settings, the app asks for permission to show notifications and then schedules local notifications on your device at each color change of a running timer. No push service or server is involved. If your iPhone is locked and you wear an Apple Watch, iOS forwards them to your watch. Turn the setting off to stop them.
Tips
The tip jar offers optional one-time purchases through Apple's App Store. Tips unlock nothing: every feature is free. Apple processes the payment under its own privacy policy, and we never see your name, payment details or address.
Third parties
Talklight has no advertising and no social sign-in. Apart from the TelemetryDeck analytics package, it includes no third-party code. It uses Apple's own frameworks, which run on your device.
Children
Talklight is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new "Last updated" date.
